Back on the Vape Trail

E-Leaf iStick PowerLast week I decided I was done with smoking cigarettes for good. I no longer wanted to feel that heavy chest feeling in the morning. I no longer wanted to be wheezing when I went to bed. I no longer wanted to be out of breath walking up short flights of stairs. I was done with all of it.

I headed to a local vape shop and picked up some supplies, and am happy to say I haven’t smoked in a week now.

It’s super simple to get off cigarettes with this method and in my opinion, these devices do a lot less harm to your lungs than a cigarette does. I no longer wheeze, my smokers cough is nearly gone, not to mention I no longer smell like absolute dog shit!

I’m quite happy with the decision and where I’m at. The next step would be to get off nicotine entirely, but I really do enjoy my vape / smoke throughout the day as a way to take a breather, so it will be much harder to stop entirely.

For now I am happy with the result over the course of a week, and I’ll continue to work hard on keeping off the smokes.

Treating Nicotine Addiction

21 Mar

Since I was sixteen years old, I’ve been smoking cigarettes.

It started out the way it does for most people that young that pick up that very first smoke. You take a long puff and nearly choke to death and wonder why people do it. You question everything you know about people that smoke and wonder how they manage to smoke a whole one. That was me… almost 14 years ago.

Now I’m coming up on 31 and still interchanging smoking with using an electronic cigarette and I’m really not doing myself any favours. I’ve been a smoker for a long time and have done several “quitting” stints trying to get off this terrible and smelly habit.

About 2 weeks ago I wrote a post about committing to The Run to Quit which is a 5KM run at the end of June that encourages people to drop the smokes and get healthier on your way to running 5KM, however it looks like the run is only in Toronto for the moment so I will have to find another fun event to run at.

The Gym

I’ve been going to the city gym 3 days a week doing some basic cardio work to get my breathing and movement back to an acceptable level. It’s funny to walk at a 5KM an hour pace and see how much sweat and energy I burn. It’s been really interesting but enjoyable.

I may need to adjust my schedule and see if I can make it there more often or maybe even take my daughter outside for walks more often to keep active and try to burn some of this extra weight.

I’m presently sitting at about 304 lbs at 6 foot exactly, and I’d like that number to come down quite a bit. I’d like to bring that down to about 200. I feel like that’s pretty acceptable for my height.

My Kids

My kids are my biggest motivator for weight loss and personal wellness. I want to get off this stupid nicotine addiction and terrible food, and replace it with fun and activity both with and for my kids.

My girls are going to need daddy to be around for a while, and I don’t want to leave them short. My dad never got to be a grandfather. I don’t want the same thing to happen to me.

The Gameplan

I’m of the belief that planning is just as important if not more important that actually doing things. If you don’t plan it properly, you end up missing steps and forgetting things. I really love the planner Shannon has put together and fully intend to print it out and get a binder going ASAP!

Life needs to be appreciated, and I would say right now I have a lot of work to do. Let’s get this sorted!
